Coming at this from a different angle, the OP states that the car doesn=E2=80=
=99t move in reverse. This is usually a problem with the uni-directional (sp=
rag) clutch.  Could it be that O/d is permanently engaged somehow rather tha=
n failing to engage?
Just a SWAG.
