OK - this from a guy who has been to El Mirage since 1958 or 59. The stuff
is like talc - the more water you use to try and clean turns the silt to
MUD. Then try to remove it! When I drove the KKM Monza into the 2 club I
could watch the dust rising from the floor. It was dust out or finish line -
which would come first, hold your breath and look for Glen in the timing
stand - BINGO  - 2club! It goes everywhere, like wet salt water when driving
out to the pits at Bonneville. I've had chunks of salt fall out of my trucks
8-9 months after I thought I had got it all. Anyway - the dirt will never go
away, just like rust. I just sold my '89 Chev last night, I could see all
the shiny stuff I did to clean it up but, I  also saw the places you cannot
reach. I had a flat tire once and the under chassis spare was full of El
Mirage dirt, so heavy I could not pick it up after dropping the tire to the
ground -talk about out of balance!!!! Rich Manchen will not race at Muroc
because of the dirt ( a different consistincy than El Mirage dirt, finer
compound). I guess Keith knows about different sizes of rocks, our racing
surfaces are just real small. I know Rich Fox and Jim Dincau will back me up
on this short story.
