My pet saying is "it's never too late to continue a happy childhood".
Mini bikes weren't discovered yet when I was in school during the early 50's,
but they sure came on strong with the go-kart craze in the late 50's and
early 60's.
During my senior year in college I bought a used Remington-Mall two man
10 HP chain saw, cobbled up a frame that was soooooo low that if you ran over
a crumpled cigarette pack it would get caught under the kart and drag along
the ground. For wheels and tires I used P-51 tail wheel assemblys or AT-6
units that were readily available from surplus stores (that's when surplus
stores really sold US Govt. surplus). The thing really screamed. Being so
close to the asphalt and out in the open, you really felt like you were
flying.
If there was a slight sealant ridge in the supermarket parking lot we
were running in, the seat would drag on it and get so hot it burned your
fanny.......
