It sure sounds like your MSD is starved for voltage while cranking the
starter!!   I could be off base (never was good at getting on base, did once and
married her), but the MSD can be sensitive to voltage, ie when you crank your
healthy motor, it could be that the voltage/amp draw to drive the starter,
leaves just not enough for the MSD 7AL.
Let us know, I am more than interested in the dyno runs with nitrous!!!
