Wait'll ya see Baskerville's Bonneville item in the new Hot Rod and my own
story in the January Rod & Custom. All of a sudden land speed is cool
again...as if it ever wasn't.

Say, did enneybody else read Cole Coonce's Bonneville article in Dec 2000
PHR (p. 80-83 ) yet ? Mine came yesteddy*. I thought he did a nice
blanket general interest piece that's prolly the best kind of a "warm up
pass" for the PHR readership that's prolly not too informed about our love
as they should be -'cause as we know there been a purty huge media blight
regards LSR in most all the Hawt Rod publications for years. Bet'cha it
will result in a heavier rope being put up to keep the spectator riffraff
off the racecars next year*. -is that a good thing ? -or is it something
else ? " Be careful of what you wish for,* you just might get it " Look
what "popularity" did to NASCAR* and NHRA. Can anybody other than Bill
Gates, Jack Roush, or Roger Penske afford to race there anymore ?
( sorry, just a little mini editorial there*.)

I think Cole did purty good "baiting the hook" for his readers -and in the
right place. I receive eight or nine hot rod and racing publications a
month, and recently returned to PHR after about a 25 year layoff because I
happened to pick one up off a newsstand and was very pleasantly surprised to
find articles about one of our favorite topics: HORSEPOWER! There's so many
"Hot Rod Books" out there today that just about ignore the topic in favor of
"stylin,'" $10,000 dolla paint, and my fav, "BILLET" -that's been the
trend for years 'cause that's what the majority of their advertisers are
hawking: glitz products. Geesh BILLET is what ya' MAKE real SPEED PARTS
out of ain't it boys ? (and Girls*) Main caps, rocker stands, Rear end
caps, -Nitrous Bottle brackets (-right Keith ?) Oh oh I'm ranting again
about my "favorite subject" -sorry.  Back to the topic at hand;

So ennyways, I say hats off ( ok, maybe not RED ones*..) to Cole
Coonce for havin' the ( pick ONE: Courage, Insight, Daring, Chutpah, or
"Good sense to know a good thing when he sees it" )

Mebbe he's lurking in the shadows and maybe he ain't, but we ought'a
let'em know he done good -and thanks to those on THE LIST, it looks like he
must'a got his ducks inna row and his facts straight !

           - "Just the facts mam, an' nuttin' but th' facts"*..

Nice job Cole. Now lets read a piece about what it's like to scream
( Oh,..ok, go fairly fast*) down the salt in a girly car at say*.228.304 or
so from a firsthand drivers point of view. Hë Hë Hë
