I may have been doing the right thing for the wrong reason.
I thought the purpose of Glyptal was to prevent casting sand
imbedded in the surface from becoming dislodged and contaminating
the oil. At onr time Glyptal was available in clear (colorless)
but that was years ago, I think it was manufactured by GE at the
time. Also, being an electrical insulating enamel, would be a good
product for sealing electrical connections, both soldered and crimped.
