It was a Frenchman named Louis Perot (sp) pronounced per-o. It was in the mid
1800's and was steam powered. However, Gottlieb Diamler built the first
internal-combustion motorcycle, rode it once and determined that it had no
future. This wasn't a two wheeler- it had 4 wheels, 2 small wheels (like 
training
wheels) on the back.
