My dad was cool. I grew up in the 'burbs so no tractors. When I was 14 and
my brother 17 my dad realized we needed more parking than we had with a one
car garage and driveway. So he told me to grab a shovel and pick and we tore
out my mothers flower garden next to the driveway for more concret for me to
park on. (I told you my dad was cool) After we removed the plants and border
and dirt we needed something for forms before we could pour. My dad told me
to take his 54 Pontiac to the hardware store (about 2 blocks) and get some
stakes and stringers. I had never driven before but I was game. We lived on
a pretty busy street and after I backed out I couldn't decide what to do. My
dad saw what was happening and told me to come back into the driveway hard.
I interpited hard as "Punch it". So I did. My first clue was when I ran over
the mail box, than I chased my dad down the driveway to about 3 ft fron the
garage door. My dad started laughing and said "Don't you know how to drive?"
I said "No. I'm 14 where would I learn to drive?" Dad said "I don't know. I
thought you would have learned form a friend or someone." So he drove us to
the store and he bought a headlight, mailbox and the rest of what we needed
to make the forms. I had a great dad. Rich Fox
