Group,
Since we are on the subject of tires......My new front tires should be here
early next week.

Some of you may remember that for the past 2 years I have been having
sidewall leakage (through the side of the tire....not rim leaks) with the
24.5 X 16 M/T tires rated (est.) for 375 MPH. The new ones are the same
because next year we will be over the Goodyear 300 MPH "barrier".

The tires are 4 years old, 13 runs, 4 over 250 and still have some of the
mold seams and knobs on them, have only been in sunlight at the salt and
were stored in the dark in the off season, uninflated. No storage advice
from M/T.

The leakage problem was temporarily cured with Palmolive liquid soap
applied to the inside of the tire carcass. This solution was suggested by
M/T but I did not try it until another person with the problem suggested
it. Apparently a common cure for sidewall leaks but I didn't know about out
here in the middle of Texas.

After 3 runs at about 250-260 the tires again began to leak. They were
apparently OK until Bill went over 200. The left front went down overnight
in impound and it took a full day to leak down after reinflating. So the
leak was not a bad one??

Discussion with the M/T rep has resulted in an investigation to be
performed by M/T after I return from WOS and ship the tires to them (the
tires are on the car at partner Gary Allen's home in Liberty, Ut).
Others have experienced this problem with this tire but apparently not all
who run the same tire. I don't know of others who run the tire and have
either sidewall leakage or no leakage but if you are there, please let me know:
1. If you have had the problem, 2. when you bought the tires and 3. a
serial number (if there is one).

I will assemble a database from this information and give it to M/T to see
if there is a "lot" problem.
My 8:00 X 18 M/T rears do not leak.
