Specifically, I was comparing intake flow of a
stock 1955 Chrysler 354 hemi and a ported
Chrysler 354 hemi with some figures I had in a
magazine for common SBC GM and aftermarket heads.
I found that the old hemi outflowed any of the
heads listed in the article I had. I can't find
the magazine with the SBC numbers as I have just
boxed up a bunch of magazines in my annual
cleanup to make room for new Christmas
subscriptions. If anybody has flow numbers for
SBC though, I would like to compare them with the
old hemi. Here's what the 1955 Chrysler hemi
flowed at 28 inches:
.200 lift 121 stock 125 ported
.300 lift 178 stock 200 ported
.400 lift 212 stock 261 ported
.500 lift 225 stock 287 ported
.600 lift 233 stock 313 ported
.700 lift 416 ported (modified for
racing)
Personally, I think those numbers look pretty
good, even today. Does anybody have any numbers
on any SBC that flows more than that? Most
old-time hemi guys felt that the smaller Desoto
flowed even better than the Chrysler, because the
ports were straighter. I dunno, my motors are
all nearly stock, but I still love every rusted
bolt in them!
