Thanks for the update, Louise. As an ex-cop, I can certainly identify with
the delaying crap that defense attornies can dream up! I certainly hope this
case turns out shining on the side of true justice and not just another
travesty of justice.

The court system actually jumped AHEAD of where we thought they would be
today. With Orange County Superior Court Judge Frank Brasino presiding, a
hearing was conducted to determine if an evidentiary hearing was needed to
decide the validity of a defense motion claiming they could not receive a fair
trial in Orange County, due to the "close personal relationship" that District
Attorney Tony Rackauckus has with Collene. After nearly two hours of
arguments, Judge Brasino ruled that there was not evidence that the defendant
would be treated unfairly by the District Attorney and that the case should
move directly to Pre-Trial, which will be held on two days, Monday and
Tuesday, April 15 and 16.
Defendant Goodwin was again wheeled into the courtroom in a wheelchair, with
another flock of complaints about his bad back and the unwillingness on the
part of the Sheriff's jail keepers to satisfy his every whim. The Judge
exercised great patience in attempting to deal with each complaint, including
arranging with the Sheriff's office for special transportation to and from
court for his appearances so that he doesn't have to wait with the other
inmates. All that waiting and riding back and forth to court bothers his back
so.
The District Attorney's office and the State Attorney General's office
acquitted themselves very well today, presenting very strong arguments against
the delaying tactics of defense counsel. Judge Brasino seemed to see right
through the outright lies the defense presented to the court. There is no
doubt this was good for us today, however, we are still a long way from a
conviction. With all of the hearings and appeals we expect along the way, it
is bound to be a long, bumpy road. We will continue to keep you posted.
