James,

Instead of using "plain weave" fabric (one over, one under, etc.) use satin
weave "harness" fabric (e.g. 3 harness satin, 5 harness satin, etc.). The
numbers refer to the number of fill fibers the warp fiber passes under
before going over another a fill fiber. (The warp fiber runs parallel to
the length of the roll of fabric, the fill fibers run perpendicular to the
warp fibers.)

For example; a five harness satin weave would have a warp fiber go over a
fill fiber and the go under the next four fill fibers, then go over the next
fill fiber in the fifth position. I.E. "one over, four under, one over,
four under."

The higher the harness number, the more "drapeable" the fabric. The higher
the harness number, the lower the strength in the warp direction. You can
change the orientation of the plies (0-90 or 45-45 degrees) to tailor your
strength requirements. You can even find "tape" in which there are only
warp fibers with no fill fibers. These have strength only in the "tension"
direction.

Hope this helps and is understandable to you. If you need some more info,
contact me off list.

Trying to figure out how to make a compound curve in a
composite work-up
(fiberglass over foam) other than sanding for the next 3
days. Any ideas?
(There has to be a simple way to do this. (I hope))

                Thanks,
                Jim.
