I went down to Spokane to check out a 1200 hp chassis dyno facility today.
Looks good and plan on taking the Salt Hawk down before WOS. So I pull up and
see what I am sure is a 57 Studebaker sedans fins sticking out of the weeds.
So I ask the owner about his Stude and he tells me it is a Simca. Okay I
know a studebaker when I see one, so he takes me over to see it and yup its a
Simca 4 dr, that looks for all the world like a 57 Studebaker downsized
somewhat. Don't ask me why they would copy one, pretty ugly. But the thing
that gets me are the V8 emblems on the rear quarters. I say V8??????? He says
up, a V60 Ford flathead, STOCK, Okay so this thing must be a 1958 or 59, my
brain goes ballistic. Then I remember the European blocks that showed up a
couple years ago, they were the 85+ hp type as I remember. the guy said this
motor has aluminum heads and what looks like aluminum side plates on the
block, I peaked under the hood and flathead it is. Will check it out more
when I Go down with the race car and take pictures. Is there a Flathead
production class, this would really get the guys scratching their heads.
