Hi Mickey,

The "blade wash" you referred to is a rinse of the air path through the
engine. The engine manufacturers recommend periodic washing of the inside
of the engines when they operate in a salt air, or high pollution
environment. Turbines breath so much air that even small amounts of salt,
or pollution, in the air builds up on the compressor blades and turbine
blades, degrading performance. When I was in the Coast Guard we did engine
washes every day then engine ran and about every third day even if they did
run.

After the "wet cycle" (generally 30 seconds turning, ignition off) you need
to do a "dry cycle" (ignition off & run starter for 30 seconds) to expel the
water, then the engine is started to dry it out. If this dry cycle was not
completed the igniter was probably wetted out and that is why the engine
wouldn't start.

I got a guided tour of Jays car collection earlier this
year. And that turbine bike was outside with a machanic trying to start it
up.I was told it had just had a blade wash (dont ask me,one of the more
technical people on the list may know what this is) and it just wouldnt
restart while I was there, which was a shame, because to me a turbine starting
up and running is one of the best sounds in the world. This bike though was
well cool, very long wheelbase, digital dash (including exhaust gas temp) and
a tv screen (not so Jay could watch David Letterman )but connected to a
camera above the back wheel so traffic behind could be seen.I was told this
bike was the 2nd one built and I think only 8 or 12 were ever made.Regards
