Seeing Allan Staniforths name mentioned on the list as an author of a book
studying chassis builds, it is timely to let you all know that Allan holds
four National British Land Speed Records.

His car was his own design of Terrapin with a 4 cylinder transverse
mounted BMC Mini engine. He ran in the 750cc to 1100cc class and on our
favourite 1.9 mile runway at Elvington (two way runs etc...) he achieved
the following unbroken records in 1968 - 1km FS 130.66mph, 1/4 mile FS
129.87mph, 1 mile FS 129.35mph.

Other UK books to read include "Racing Car Design and Development by Len
Terry and Alan Baker" and "Design for Competition - 750 Motor Club". Both
probably only available in the second hand market. The 750 Motor Club is a
UK circuit racing equivalent of the homebuilders on the US Lakes and Salt
Flats - lots of innovation used when money is limited.
