I'd wondered about that.

I've had to use car batteries many times to power instruments whose
batteries "crapped-out" when I was not in a position to re-charge or get
another;  never had tried to go the other way with it, though.

  "Gellcells" aren't very good for supplying high peak current. I'd look at
other types if high cranking current is needed. They are great for other
applications, though.
