I hadn't considered the vacuum braking in a gas engine and agree with you on
diesels in general, not to offend any fans. If I remember right the old
turboglide had a grade retard. The gear ratios and aero styling of the new
trucks and trailers both large and small place much more demand on the brake
system on down grades.
