I,ve been following the discussions on aero drag. It's an interesting
subject which I wish I knew more about. Also, in the class I run, D/CGALT,
there is not much that I can do to improve the drag situation because of the
restrictive rules. From the books I have read I offer
the typical range of the various contributions to a road vehicle's
aerodynamic drag. Skin friction- .04-.05 CD Cooling drag- .00-.06
Internal flow, vetilation-.00-.05 CD Form drag(flow separations) - .00-.45
CD Lift induced drag(wings, etc.)-.00-.60 CD. Tire resistance is a minor
factor and anyway there is not much we do about it. Draging the wake behind
the car is THE big problem for a coupe and less so for a streamliner.
AERODYNAMIC LOADS INCREASE BY THE SQUARE OF SPEED. Terry Hunt, Guam
