Bob, I suggest a Super T-10 gearbox, which is the best of them. Plenty
of them are around, the one I'm using I got locally for $300. I got
another for a spare, looks like new, built by the professionals at D & L
Transmissions in NY, $750 with no core charge. Call Larry at
516-351-4837. These stock Super T-10s have a huge torque capacity, made
for big inch engines in heavy sedans, and I have to think they are
indestructible behind a Flathead or Ardun.

Tex Racing sells a NASCAR-quality shifter, but if you sit in the center
of the car the shift lever is going to be an issue, it will tend to come
up right where your left leg is. But, Hurst makes a wide range of shift
levers for their shifter brain, and the one I use has a big dog leg to
move it over to the right, out of the way of my leg. I don't think
you'll be able to get it all the way over on your right side since the
brain sits on the left side of the gearbox housing, and you may end up
with a modified or fabricated shift lever on your left side, so you will
have to shift with your left hand, but... the Brits have done it that
way for many years!

One more point, you will need some eccentric dowels for your flathead
block to dial in your trans adaptor to get the crankshaft axis
concentric with your gearbox. With one or two adaptors depending on
early or late block, the stock dowels will be quite a bit off so you
need to check this with a dial indicator attached to your crank,
indicating on the gearbox opening. Bill
