Mayf and List

Been away in some rare UK sun shine and have just been through 250 e mails,
most from this group!

The North American Eagle team with their jet aeroplane turned into a jet
car have a great paint job and a supersonic vehicle at altitude, but will
it do the business at sea level? Smaller package than Thrust SSC with one
engine. Can it then achieve the speed needed? Art Arfons has said that
only powerful twin motor contenders are likely to have sufficient power
today. Rosco McGlashan in Australia is to build a new Aussie Invader with
two jet engines and ofcourse supersonic capability.

The governing body (ACCUS or whoever in the USA) representing the FIA will
adjudicate on whether the safety measures both built into the car and
surrounding the attempt are acceptable. I know there were many US racers
who considered Thrust SSC as being outside the safety rules that they were
used to - but the FIA were content.

When you run an FIA attempt the contender carries the insurance risks and
indemnifies the sports governing bodies from any liability.

If the car is built to the (build and safety) standards of a National Motor
Sport body in either the country of build or the country of the attempt
site then the FIA will likley let it run.
