Hi Neil;             I  Agree.   100%

but what I'm wonderin is why this one (4hp B&S) don't have 'that' snap or a
"hot blue" spark,....

its just a 'so-so' 1/8" spark model...   :-(            mebbe I need a new
coil  .....

Doug;

Aside from very expensive test equipment, a simple "tester" is just to pull
the wire off the spark plug, hold the plug wire connector about 1/4" away
from the cylinder and see how much "snap" the spark has. A nice blue-white
arc with an audible "snap" assures you that it can easily fire a plug.

Hello Tom,  & List,

speaking of spark plugs ,..... Is there any -practical- way of measuring
the output of a plug wire (or coil wire ) -at say cranking speed, to help
evaluate it's 'ability" or strength ????

Specifically I'm thinking of small engines i.e. Briggs & Stratton et at....

BUT whatever answer we get here MIGHT be appropos to other engines as
well     nez pa ?

Any ideas -or have I just got 'brain fade' ???
