Tell me if I'm right here. A mini spool serves the same function as a spool
except that the ring gear stays on the stock carrier. The mini spool replaces
the spider gear assembly and serves to lock to the axles together in a single
splined sleeve. Am I right?

Does anybody know of a mini spool available for 8" Ford. The 2.73"1 GM rear I
had won't work because it would cost a small fortune to get it up to safety
specs. I have an 8" Ford 3.0:1 rear out of a Mustang that would fit nicely
under the Stude, and although the gear is a little lower than what I wanted for
the RPM I wanted to turn, it would probably work if there's a way to lock it up
without mortgaging the house. Otherwise, I guess it's back to the junk yard
this weekend in search of 9".

Thanks
Dick J in East Texas
