Hi Folks,

small note to the 912E.

There is only a small number of 912E, due to this that this version was only
build for the American market - in Europe Porsche start the 924 for sale.

Anyway - what John wrote that the 912E and the 914/4 engine is the same, is
nearly correct.

The big different is the exhaust system and that the 912E got a another belt
drive added for a airpump.

originally the engine was a 411E engine from VW - the 914/4 used - beginning in
1971 - at first only a slightly modified 80 HP version with a simple injection
system and Bosch electronic. The 411 E used a Bosch K-Jetronic.

In 1973 the 2.0 engine for the 914/4 worked out 100 HP with the new L Bosch
electronic

>From 1974 they modified the 1.7 engine to a 1.8 engine - in the 914/4 was the
>L-Jetronic installed for the US and Canada market - this engine produce 76 HP
>- the double carburator version for Europe was good for 85 HP

The 2.0 runs the L-Jetronic in Europe and the American Version.

For 1975 the changed nothing on the engine.

1976 saw the end of the 914/4 - the 914/6 past away during the year 1971 - and
the 914/8 was only used from Porsche internal.

The 2.0 from the 912E used also a L-Jetronic from Bosch, but produced only 90
HP. The reason was the different set up of the L-Jetronic due to a other
exhaust system, that the engine match into the 912 engine compartment and the
added belt drive which killed some power.

So the 914/4 with the 2.o in 73, the 1.8 and 2.0 in 74 and 75 used so as the
912E from 75 the same L-Jetronic, but the programm setup for all three engines
was different - the black box also got different spare/production delivery
numbers. You can't be sure that the electronic of a 914/4 2.0 works on a 912E
2.0 engine.

What can be the same, is the reason for the failure.

This just as a information to the different engines

See ya
