Rollie was right, too. Ball & roller bearings don't like high viscosity
lubricants when run at high speed. In ultra-high speed applications,
those bearing manufacturers recommend only an oil mist.
A thick oil or grease causes "churning" in the ball races at high speed,
this causes drag and heat.

Bryan, over 50 years ago Rollie Free and Marty Dickerson set Bonneville
records on their Vincents using 10w oil, when the factory specified
50w. These were ball and roller bearing engines. Marty told me Rollie
told him to do it, Rollie had found it reduced internal drag years
before, and gave more speed. Bill
