Hi Jon,
       My Dad was from Iron River MI. My grandmother who imigrated from
Italy learned to make pasties from the hard rock iron miners from Cornwall
that boarded with them. She also learned english from them, including such
expressions as "bloody bugger" which she delivered with an Italian accent.
She taught my Mom and I learned from her, havent made any in a while though,
perhaps I should. The only place I ever found them out west was in Prescot
AZ. The owner of the resuraunt said he made them because thay were a
favorite of his mom's. He served them with gravy, I prefer them with salt
pepper and butter, my dad liked them with catsup. Thanks for bringing back
some great memorys.
