a ford would a lot better choice if you want an E motor and it has to be a
V-8.
The lower deck height is more reasonable for the stroke to have to run to
get down to 260 inches.
Here is the problem
with a 4.030 bore block has to be about the most common size ever built for
a small bore engine you need a stroke of 2.54 or less to be legal engine
size.
the shortest Chevy rod that I am aware of is around 5.565 out of a 400
Chevy. That still gives a rod ratio of 2.19 pretty long by most standards
typical ratios are around 1.7. now with a standard Chevy block with a 9.025
deck height the compression height of the piston comes out to be 2.190, or
in other words heavy and unstable pistons. GM does make an aftermarket low
deck block but the word rare to describe them is an understatement. next
thing is the heads and intake manifold. They will have to be purpose built
for this small an engine with this long a rod ratio.. Even with all that you
still need to spin it pretty hard to make any power with that small an
engine and torque with a 2.54 stroke and typical Chevy heads will be low to
non existent..
Or you could build a V-6 or get a used Busch GN v-6 that has all the R&D
work done and makes around 550 hp until you are tired of pouring gas in the
tank..
