Chris, the groove is usually in the block deck and a flat copper gasket
goes over a steel or copper wire that stands proud in the groove about
.010", so that a high-pressure sealing ring is produced against the
head, around the combustion chamber.  To hopefully hold that tremendous
pressure in your racing engine!  How did these heads come to have o-ring
grooves in them; looks like it's reversing the normal concept?  Bill
