I've also heard that gerotor pumps are very sensitive to debris in the
oil. Screens are recommended to keep out pieces of disintegrated rocker
arm needle bearings, etc.

A nice Weaver pump is as reliable as they get.
That is why there are copies of them I would think.
But they are good at pumping oil, in or out.
None of the oil pumps are that good at pumping air that is whay they are
called oil pumps.
Moroso and others make very good vaccuum pumps that are good at pumping
air.
If you have to pump air with an oil pump i had heard the gear rotor ones
work pretty good at it.
