List,

the Fiat S76 was the answer to the Blitzen Benz invasion - there was 4
different running - they set different records on different venues over a
decade - the first was in 1909 Hemery - he set the first official record faster
than 200 km/h - and the record was pushed higher and higher - in 1914 Hornsted
set the first two way average record (this record was slower than Hemery's one
way record) and this record stayed for years in the name of Blitzen Benz.

During this time, drivers was faster, using the Blitzen Benz, but never
official.

Burman runs 228 km/h in 1911, Tetzlaff 229 km/h at the Salt Flats - but only
over the 1/2 mile in 1914.

The Fiat was not so lucky - this car never set a record. He runs under Bordino
and Duray in 1911 and 1913 over 200 km/h, but never certified.

The Mephistoles was the Eldrigde car, he set a official record of 235 km/h in
1924.

Before the Blitzen Benz record was first time official broken in 1922 -
Guinness (from KLG spark plugs fame) went 215 km/h in the 350 hp Sunbeam. So
the Blitzen Benz (or better one the cars) hold the record from 1909 to 1922 -
also effect to the WWI.

Before this record, in America at the Daytona Beach, de Palma and Milton went
242 and 251, but not certified.

Hope this helps.

Think fast....always
