I am not surprised! Also just read a report that says that the Hybrids are
less energy efficient than non-Hybrids when all is considered. Cost of
production, disposal of batteries, other components, etc.
Just some common sense in the way we use our cars would have a greater
impact on our resources, I think.

When I bought my used Insight over three years ago, I got it for less than
half it's original purchase price, and it was only 2 years old. They also
supposedly depreciate rapidly due to people's fear of the battery replacement
cost and perceived difficulty in getting repairs on a very technical vehicle.
Truth is getting either used or new hybrids now is expensive due to the gas
prices of late.
We need a major change in national attitude regarding energy, something that
will take a lot higher prices than what is currently accepted as only a
nuisance situation.
I was at the New York Auto show yesterday for the opening ceremonies, which
prominently displayed out front a long line of limos and large black SUVs,
which should tell you what Detroit's attitude is. In the show proper were
numerous banners touting Ethanol, different takes on Hybrids, and variable
disp.
tech. My take is the show still says big is better, just slanted back
towards cars as opposed to the SUV thing.
I got a Heating Oil delivery yesterday, price actually up from two months
ago, a serious sign of future oil product prices.
