There are very few Whitworth fastenings on the TD. Right now I can
think of none. There are many BSF fastenings. Whitworth have a
different thread pitch, coarse, than British Standard Fine. British
Standard Fine tools are the same size as Whitworth but are marked one
size larger than the Whitworth. There are also many British Association
(BA) fasteners along with some British Standard Pipe (BSP) and a few
other seldom seen sizes. British Association (BA) are used on fasteners
smaller than 1/4" BSF, so you encounter them in the ancillaries such as
distributor, carbs, starter, dynamo, and other electrical components
with small screws. There are also some used in the door latches and who
remembers where else.
A set of 1/4" or ignition US sized wrenches will work for some but no
all BA wrenches. Go to my web site

you to a few TD articles one of which will show all the BSF/Whitworth
sizes. If you will go to the twin cam site instead you will find a
slightly different article which contains information on BA sizes.
The main thing to remember is that except for the axles on the last TDs
and all TFs there are absolutely NO American sized fasteners unless some
DPO put them in. BTW there are two thread American thread pitches SAE
fine and SAE coarse and the Unified thread is very close, but not quite
the same, as SAE fine.
