While almost any rear can be narrowed, & the 3.08 : 1 gears are the most
common choice when running 14" wheels, the TR axle may not be the best
choice.

Ideally, you find a 3.07 or 3.330 rear from an MGC, which is a direct bolt
in, no mods necessary, unless you find a wire wheel C rear that will require
wheel spacers, and all C rears will use the brakes, complete, from an MGB
rear.

The next most common choice is some form of 8" Ford rear, narrowed. Other
rears that have been narrowed for V8 projects are 7-3/4 Mopar, Chevy Monza,
9" Ford(overkill?)

There was a thread a while back about Postal Jeep rears which needed minor
mods to use, check the archives.

For 14" tires & wheels, most seem to use ratios from 2.80 to 3.30, with 3.00
being the most popular. For 15" tires & wheels, I like 3.50 in my GT, but am
going to try 3.70 in the current ragtop project.
