While this is just heresay, as I still have my stock Rosstyles on, I 
believe I read that most of the interference in the front of the car is 
with the rim and the steering linkages and contact on the inboard side 
of the tire with the engine bay wall, whereas most problems in the back 
are with the outside of the tire rubbing on the fender (which a panhard 
rod seems to eliminate in most cases).
Again, I could be patently wrong, but that is what I recall reading in a 
few books, which might explain the different philosophy of chosing an 
offset.
