Thread-topic: How crash-worthy is an MGB?
I had a 63 B that I got hit almost head-on at 60 MPH. He crossed the
line and was almost to the shoulder when I swerved to miss him. The
impact destroyed the front of the B. I put my head through the driver
side window. I passed out briefly and was surprised to see the engine
light was on. I turned the ignition off and got out of the car. Then
everything turned red from the blood running down my head. The guy that
hit me went on 100 feet and crashed through a brick wall at a Motel. As
I pulled him out of his car I realized when the drunk said to me "I know
you! I ran into you six months ago" that it was indeed the same drunk
that rear ended me at a stop sign six months earlier. But back to the
car. The front of the car was totaled. But the passenger area of the
car was fine. I did also tear my knee up a bit from the impact with the
dash. But I can honestly say I believe the car saved my life. This was
in 1974...I don't think there were any air bags out yet. Oh...the cop
took the guys license away on the spot...his 9th accident in 8 months!
