Greetings greasers,
Thanks to all who replied to<temp guage>, my guage checked out well and
I'm confident that a new sending unit will cure the problem.
My latest brain teaser is the signal lites on my 1975 Roadster. They,
along with about half the other lites, didn't work when I bought the car
about a month ago. After much diddling, studying, testing and cleaning of
grounds, contacts and connections nearly everything works. I replaced the
corroded fusebox and sundry connectors and terminals. I even treated the
bullets and spades with a chemical thats supposed to improve electrical
connections in old stuff (no miracles yet I,ll keep you posted).
The signals work rather languidly with the key on but fail to blink when
the parking or headlamps are on. They do burn brightly but don't blink
(emergency flashers work fine). Trying, w\ headlamps off, to get a zippier
flash by bringing a test ground wire from the batt. neg.directly to the bulb
case doesn't seem to help. Extended time with the signal on while testing
causes them to fail entirely and then it won't blink no matter what I do.
The car came equipt with four flashers two installed (one emerg. one
directional) in the car and two rolling around in the trunk. They all click
snappily when energized on the bench w\ a 12v M.C. battery. but If I hook up
a 12v. bulb in the circuit they won't flash, nothing happens?
Do you think the flasher(s) are no good? Or, maybe theres another
corroded connector I haven't found. I have a multi meter that will measure
ohm's or amp's. But I,m not sure what parameters I should be looking for in
the oms (R) reading if I'm going to try to locate the fault by testing,
section by section. Or, can I go about it by measuring ampheres when the
signals are on but not blinking?
