If the metal console box has a cigarette lighter then connecting the
ground to it should work find. Just turn on the radio and touch the
wire to different chassis parts to see if you can find a good ground.
Remember it won't work through paint so you may have to scatch a little
away in an inconspicuous place. The radio is probably grounding through
the antenna.
