Hmm, this makes sense.  It makes more sense because it seems to be 
anodised blue, not painted.  I wonder if this means I have an unleaded 
head.  Any way to find out?

I've seen a lot of blue heads.  The reason has usually been that if you 

send out the head to be rebuilt, the machine shops had a tendency to send 


them back to you, beautifully refinished, but in blue.  The blue heads 

I've seen have almost always matched the color of Ford Mustang, etc. 

engines.  It was probably just a question of having the color in stock.  
Why 

people who rebuild their own heads would repaint them blue is beyond me.
