My dad used to have this old Wollensack ree-to-reel tape recorder made in
the early sixties. At some point, it was on the fritz, probably due to a
bad tube. I was about 4 at the time, and I decided I would "fix" it.
It's amazing what a kid armed with two screwdrivers can do to a helpless
piece of machinery. I dismantled that old tape machine down the the very
last nut, washer, pulley, belt, c-clip, tube, motor, etc.....

Amazingly enough, my uncle who is a mechanical engineer, was able to
completely reassemble the thing with no manual or instructions from about
a gazillion little pieces. It never malfunctioned again, though I was
experiencing a little difficulty sitting for a day or so after the
incident.;>

PS -- I wonder if this explains my affection for MGs?!

Don't count on it. My two little ones (almost 3 and 4 1/2) both love to
get

into my tools. I've had to chase them out of the garage when I'm working

'cause I don't want to let them see me working *with tools* on the car.

They're great at doing whatever they see daddy do. I narrowly averted

disaster a few weeks ago when the younger one got a new (sharp)

screwdriver and was going to fix the paint job.
