Fellow MG Addicts,
Well, i took apart the distributor on my '73 Midget yesterday. I took
a good look at it - it was *full* of nasty gunky stuff - amazing
what 7 idle years will do. Anyway, i decided that it was scrap. I
went and paid $87 at the local MG parts joint and bought a new
distributor and rotor (the cap looked OK). I put it in after an
hour or so worth of fiddling with that weird clamp, hooked up the
timing light and BINGO! Smooth, constant timing and the advance
works too! Boy, what a difference!

Now i get to spend the evening making carb->intake gaskets. Mine
has *none* and the parts store says "no", so i have the materiel, the
scissors, the will - if only i had the skill! I flunked cut
and paste in kindergarten ;) - that's why i bought 5 times the
gasket materiel i need :)

Has anyone had luck sealing the carb->intake seals (i count
6 of them) with permatex #2 which claims to "resist" gasoline?
I hate claims like that - "resist" doesn't sound too good in
my book......

        Graham
