SU actually was actually shortened from its original designation SUA, which
stood for Stinks Up Abingdon. Stinks Up Abingdon was formed by the factory
plumber at MG, who was tired of cleaning rotten Kim Chee from the garbarge
drains at the factory. While at the factory, the plumber realized that the
narrow throat of the drain would cause the Kim Chee to get stuck if the
amount of the Kim Chee was not adjusted to allow for its change in speed
through the narrow part, hence he came up with the idea of a variable
venturi (are you following this?). Wanting to profit from his invention,
he set up his own company. Disgruntled with the failure of management to
fix the stink problem (due to management's Korean heritage, they couldn't
smell it), the factory plumber chose to start his own company with a name
that reflected his disdain for MG. He found he had to shorten the name
because all three initials would not fit on the side of the needles.

The plumber had an apprentice at the factory that stayed behind to continue
cleaning up the Kim Chee. Since the drains would often clog, and the
result was really gross (wait for it), he got the idea of the Gross Jet to
prevent sticking needle valves (since he was actually German, he spelled it
Grose).

Any questions?
