Most definitely!  It is the only positive way to adjust the mixture.
I just tuned (De-tuned) Tintin with it.  Heck, it's even FUN to see
the combustion color go from orange (Rich) to white (adjusted) to
blue (Lean).  Rev the engine and see the color phases change.
Reminds me of that gasoline commercial where they had the engine
with the transparent head...
If you have any doubt, ask any three people how to adjust the mixture,
you'll get three answers.  "Adjust the mixture screw, lift the piston."
"Adjust the mixture screw, lift the opposite piston." "Adjust the mixture
screw, sniff the exhaust"  "Adjust the mixture to maximum rpms." "Adjust
jet to level, and screw down twelve flats"
