Thos capillary tubes are filled with an elsuive stuff (almost as elusive as
quicksilver) known in the good old fart days as Ether Meth. It might be hard
to find it today. Starting fluid has some ether in it but it is so
evaporative that you can't keep it in place long enough to cold solder the
tube and be sure there's enuf in there to properly transmit temperature. I
guess you could try to get a hospital grade ether but I think that it is a
controlled substance. Best bet is to send the gauge and all it's parts to
one of the gauge rebuilding services, grit your teeth and pay their fee. Let
them worry about the environmental hazards, dangers of combustible chemicals,
and calibration.
Good Luck.
