I don't know of any alternator that puts out any thing near capacity at idle!
Even the average 100 amp units only produce around 30 - 40 amps at idle. You
sure couldn't run an electric cooling fan and an electric A/C unit very long
in stop and go city traffic, unless you had a HUMONGUS alternator and a
HUMONGUS battery!
