John,
I have just had my car painted after stipping it completely to the shell.
The brace you talk of was painted BLACK originally, the car was blaze orange. I
also drive a green/blue 72, this is all original paint, it too has a BLACK
brace. ONLY the surface of the brace that faces forwards is black in both cars.
