Philip, you are only partly right. Edmund did lead to the origin of the
cat thread, which led to innovations in carpets, seat webbing, and fuzzy
weatherstrip.
I believe you are confusing Edmund with Dexter, Cecil's previous cat
(the cats, as well as the cars, were named alphabetically). Dexter led
to the catskin car when he was accidentally catapulted, by an errant
coil spring, into the front wing of an MG. In addition to the dog
problem, the idea was found to be uneconomical, due to the number of
cats required to cover an entire car. Fleas became a problem as well.
One advantage of the model, however, was that rodents never attacked the
upholstery and covertible tops. The only surviving car was used as the
Catwoman's vehicle in the old Batman TV Series (don't know if you Brits
are familiar with that or not). It's current whereabouts are unknown.
David is a little late with the book. My book, "The Cats of Abingdon"
has already been published and can be obtained by sending LOTS of
American dollars to me! I may be persuaded to allow it to be serialised
in MG World (which, BTW, can use a little humor - you British take your
cars much too seriously), for the right price.
