Yep. The Rover V-8 isn't being touted as a great swap idea
just because we're all Anglophile-stiff-upper-lip types.

Some engine weights:

     Ford 289/302 V8 460
     Mazda 12A rotary 348 RX7
Mazda 12A rotary 356 Japanese model turbo, EFI
     Rover 3500 V8 318

Pretty amazing, when you consider that the engine can be
taken to 5.0 litres. And again, can be installed with very
little in the way of welding and so forth to a rubber bumpered 'B.

And, I think your concerns about EFI in an MG are a little unfounded.
99% of the time the eletrical "problems" MGs have are from lack
of use and lack of proper care. One Midget we brought in had
all sorts of "gremlins" and bizarre things happening with the
turn signals and so forth. Clean the fuse block, clean the grounds,
and everything worked. So many of these cars (even the ones
restored and owned by caring folks) spend so much time just
sitting, the electricals corrode. The only "electrical" problem
I've had in years is my windscreen wiper switch broke---a mechanical
failure, not a problem with Lucas. Other folks have quite
successfully installed fuel injected Rover V-8s, and my Rover 3.9
transplant will use the "hotwire" injection from a '91 Range Rover.
