The rule of nines is simply an easy way of adjusting the valves without
a lot of turning the engine.
Simply put, the valves are numbered from front to rear, 1 thru 8. Then
when any one valve is fully opened the valve whose number when added to
the opened valve's number equals nine, is ready to be adjusted.
Example when number 3 is fully open (rocker all the way down), number 6
is fully closed and ready to be adjusted.
By using this technique, the engine will only need to be turned about
11/2 revolutions to adjust all the valves
I do it by removing the plugs, placing the car in 4th gear and gently
move the car forward and backward to move the valve train.
