Jason:

I bought one of those painting masks, and IMHO they're junk. I took the
advice of the local MG shop, and hand painted the black part. I used black 
enamel and a very fine brush around the ridge, then a wider brush to fill it
in.
It came out very nice. I was surprised how smooth the black enamel came
out. It does take a steady hand around the edges though.
