Well, other than one flippant answer, no one has come up with the info on the
gearbox trivia question I asked. Too obscure?

Last chance: in the late 50's/early 60's, BMC made a 5speed transmission (as
opposed to overdrive) for competition use, based on one of their production
gearboxes.

Does anyone know which trans it was based on and what cars they used it in?

Hint: the car it was used in was not the car that it was normally produced
for.
