When I last had this problem, not on current car, I found that the wire from
the outside of the sending unit to the windings inside had broken.

I suggest that you check the continuity of the circuit as you can have
voltage with an open or broken wire.

The fuel gage on my 74 B worked for several days and then quit
(actually within
several miles of my first fill-up). I have votage at the gage and at
the fuel
sending unit at the tank. I am guessing it is in the fuel sending
unit. How
do I check it? Removing it from the tank is no problem.
